Diptych Project

Going along the lines of fantasy and reality, Megan and I chose to depict the relationship of humanity and nature.  This diptych shows how through humanity’s greed we fantasize about limitless resources.  However, on the other side, we convey the reality that humans are over consuming the planet’s resources.  We threw in some irony with Michelangelo’s painting in the Sistine Chapel.  We used his figure of God to depict his displeasure with humanity’s destructive behavior.

  1. It's interesting how the compositions in both of your pieces work together: the left image has a lower ground position and the opposite with the right image. Both work well with your content because of the position of key elements in your pieces (example: more sky as perhaps a nod to the beauty of the environment; more ground as perhaps a nod to the desolation of destruction).
My only suggestion for your diptych would be to have the "god" figure a bit smaller to show that he's further in the distance--it could add a bit more dimension to the "butcher" piece.

  2. One thing I really enjoy about this project is the contrast between the two images. You were very successful at having each image set its own tone, both a lot different from each other. Even though you used the same pictures in each, they are both able to stand alone very well. Good job!

  3. This was definitely one of the works that stood out more in the class. The highly contrasting compositions worked to help emphasize the theme, which is easily inferred from the differences found diptych. I think the diptychs really worked well for you guys the way you made it, and I really enjoyed looking at this project.
